Matt Vollmar is a junior from Florissant, Missouri. He is a health science major with a minor in business. His goal is to attend graduate school for physical therapy and eventually run his own therapy clinic.
Matt says one of the things he loves about Mizzou is that there’s a place for everyone.
“Whether Mizzou is your first choice or not, everyone has opportunities to reach out and find what makes them happy,” Matt says. “Don’t be afraid to try something new because that may help you meet your closest friends and make the best connections with your professors or other faculty members.”
In addition to serving as a student ambassador for the School of Health Professions, Matt, also is involved with Mizzou Alternative Breaks, Caring for Columbia, and the service fraternity in the School of Health Professions, Sigma Eta Rho.
What made you apply to be an SHP Student Ambassador?
I wanted to help prospective students find their best fit. Whether attending Mizzou, being a part of the School of Health Professions, or going elsewhere, everyone deserves the chance to find what’s best.
What made you want to pursue a career in health care?
I wanted the chance to connect with and positively impact someone’s life.
What has been your favorite class at Mizzou thus far?
Human Anatomy — it was such an interesting class!
What should make students choose Mizzou?
Students should choose Mizzou because we have the best professors that will help them succeed. On top of that, Mizzou has phenomenal advisors who will put them in a position to excel in their studies.
If you could have dinner with one famous Mizzou alum, who would it be and why?
I would have dinner with Jon Hamm. There’s not much of a reason, but he would be my choice. Plus, he’s a St. Louis Blues fan, which would make it worthwhile.
