Mackenzie is a sophomore from Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She is majoring in health science with an emphasis on rehabilitation sciences. She also has a minor in psychology. After graduation, she plans to attend graduate school for physical therapy.

One piece of advice Mackenzie has for new students is to always keep an open mind.

“College is a time of many new experiences and while not everything will go the way you plan, just remember that everything will work out in the end,” she says.

In addition to her service as a School of Health Professions student ambassador, Mackenzie is a member of Sigma Eta Rho, the School of Health Professions service fraternity and serves as the director of logistics for Caring for Columbia, Mizzou’s largest student-led day of service.

What is your favorite place on campus?

My favorite place on campus is the top floor of the Student Center. I spend a lot of time in the CSI and can always find a cozy place to hangout in between classes.

What has been your favorite Mizzou moment?

My favorite Mizzou moment so far has been standing in Speaker’s Circle with a group of girls from my freshman floor, screaming “I love Mizzou!”

When did you know Mizzou was “the one”?

I knew Mizzou was the one at the very beginning of my campus tour, when we stepped out of Jesse Hall into the most beautiful sunny day and saw the columns for the first time.

What has been your favorite class so far?

Surprisingly, my favorite class has been “Public Speaking.” The other students in my class were all very friendly and outgoing and we all knew we didn’t feel totally confident in our speaking skills so we became very close and helped each other through the class, making it fun in our own way.

What’s your favorite free-time activity?

When the weather is nice, I love hiking in one of the nearby parks but during the winter you can usually find me under a pile of blankets with a good book.

Why did you choose your major?

I always knew I wanted to do something in the health care field, but medical school seemed rather daunting. I also really enjoy being active in my free time, so physical therapy seemed like the best way to combine my passion for people while incorporating things I already enjoy doing.

What’s your favorite place to eat in CoMo?

My favorite restaurant so far has been Addison’s, but there are so many great places in Columbia that I’m always looking for somewhere new to try.

Why should students choose Mizzou?

Mizzou is an amazing school. The campus is beautiful, the professors are truly invested in our education, and I’ve made so many great friends here. There really is a place for everyone on this campus, and part of the fun of college is finding that place where you feel like the best version of yourself.
