Garrett Johnson is from Fulton, Missouri. He is a health science student with an emphasis in rehabilitation science. Garrett is on the physical therapy track with the intent to obtain his DPT and one day own his own practice.

“Physical therapy is one of the only professions where you get to see your patient from the start to finish of their medical treatment,” Garrett says. “Therefore, it is a great option to pursue as it has a 100% board passage and job placement rate for individuals graduating from the physical therapy program at Mizzou.”

In addition to being a student ambassador, Garrett has been involved in campus organizations such as PPTO (PrePhysical Therapy Organization), which prepares aspiring physical therapists for their future careers. He is also a Phi Delta Theta fraternity pledge. Through his fraternity, Garrett has gotten involved with Mizzouthon. Mizzouthon raises money all year long for the Women’s and Children’s Hospital, which is a part of the MU Health Care system. The vast majority of funds raised by this organization are allocated to the NICU. In his free time, Garrett enjoys spending time with family and friends, as well as hiking.

What made you apply to be an SHP Student Ambassador?

If it wasn’t for the current SHP ambassadors, I do not think I would have ended up at the University of Missouri. Both of my parents attended Missouri State so I was highly considering going to college in Springfield. But after my tour and meeting with the ambassadors, I was drawn to Mizzou. I wanted to join the ambassador team so that I could make a difference for other students. Everyone deserves the right to the best possible education, and I believe that Mizzou can give that to most individuals.
