Abby Lewis is a freshman from Normal, Illinois. She is a pre-nuclear medicine student. Abby’s goal is to become a nuclear medicine technologist and possibly pursue a graduate degree one day.
“About 60 to 70 percent of all medical decisions regarding a patient’s diagnosis and treatment are based upon laboratory results obtained by clinical laboratory scientists,” Abby states. “I am excited to get involved in a field in which I am able to help individuals and receive professional training in various aspects of clinical laboratory medicine.”
In addition to being a student ambassador, Abby has joined the Catholic Student Association and volunteers at Adapted Gymnastics, a program that allows children with various impairments to participate in modified gymnastics. In her free time, Abby enjoys going for runs on the MKT Trail and trying different coffee shops around Columbia.
What made you apply to be an SHP Student Ambassador?
At my first visit to Mizzou, Cheri mentioned that I should look into being an SHP Student Ambassador once I was on campus. Since I had similar roles in high school, I thought it would be a fruitful and enjoyable experience. Additionally, I wanted to share the love I have for Mizzou and health care with others.
What residence hall did you live in? Were you in a FIG (freshmen interest group)?
I lived in Schurz Hall, but I was not in a FIG.
How have you achieved academic success during your time as an undergraduate?
I manage my time well and always put effort into taking good, organized notes in class. When I know there is a topic I don’t understand, I make sure to research or ask about it as soon as I can.
If you could re-live one Mizzou sports memory, what would it be and why?
I wish I could relive the 2019 Braggin’ Rights Game. I was at the game and was surrounded by Illinois fans when Mizzou won, and seeing the game in person was super special!
