The School of Health Professions offers multiple co-curricular opportunities for students interested in service, leadership, professional development and social engagement. Sigma Eta Rho, Student Council and the SHP Diversity Alliance are organizations in SHP that offer membership to students of all levels and majors. There are also program-specific organizations where you can connect with students who share your major. See all SHP student organizations.
The SHP Student Ambassador leadership team is involved with recruitment, outreach and community service. The Adult Day Connection and Adaptive Gymnastics offer students the opportunity to volunteer alongside students, faculty and staff in SHP.
Undergraduate research in SHP pairs students with faculty mentors and their research projects. The COMPASS program pairs students with alumni for valuable professional mentoring and the SHP Career Services office offers a wide range of professional development workshops. Academic departments also offer professional student organizations, and the Department of Health Science’s Office of Experiential Learning facilitates Alternative Break, Study Abroad, the Peer Mentor Program and coordinates internships for DHS students.
Campus-wide student organizations are searchable in the Org’s database, and community-wide volunteer opportunities can be searched in the MU Serves database. Your academic adviser, SHP peer advisers and professors can be excellent resources if you would like to discuss valuable co-curricular opportunities.
