Mizzou NSSLHA 2021 Update Seminar

For the first time in its 30-year history, the MU Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences Department is offering our Mizzou NSSLHA Update Seminar free of charge on Zoom and in a journal club format on Friday, Feb. 26.

Please join us as MU Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences faculty and graduate students lead these informative sessions on four different topics. Come to all four sessions or choose the one(s) you want for ASHA CEUs. This is a free CE event, but donations are welcome to one of our departmental fundraisers.

In this format, you receive CEUs for reading the journal article(s) and participating in the related Zoom session led by MU SLHS faculty and graduate students.

How does this work?

Sign up via Google form,  and select as many of the four sessions you would like to attend (see sessions below).  You will be sent the related article(s) prior to the Zoom sessions held on Friday, Feb. 26. Questions?  Contact Dana Fritz, Mizzou NSSLHA advisor.

How are ASHA CEUs assigned?

You will be awarded CEUs for the time you spend in the sessions as well as time spent reading the research article(s) related to the session(s) you sign up for. CEUs assigned for reading time are based on article word count. ASHA logo with the text that says: ASHA CE Approved Provider


Narrative Intervention

Elizabeth Kelley

Elizabeth Kelley, PhD, CCC-SLP, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences at the University of Missouri. Her research program focuses on effective approaches for language intervention in educational and clinical settings, with the goal of improving the language abilities of children with developmental language disorders and children from families with low socioeconomic status during the preschool and early school years.



Bridget Rennard

Bridget Rennard, BA, is a first year SLP graduate student at the University of Missouri and will graduate with her Master’s degree in May of 2022. Bridget completed her undergraduate degree in 2019 at the University of Kansas, and she completed a Fulbright grant in Spain prior to attending MU. Bridget is interested in working with a variety of populations and bilingual individuals.

Stacy Wagovich

Stacy A. Wagovich, Ph.D., CCC-SLP is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences, University of Missouri. Her research interests are in childhood fluency disorders and developmental language disorders. Her most recent work focuses on the interactions among language, cognitive factors, and stuttering in early childhood. She is currently the Editor-in-Chief of Seminars in Speech and Language, Pediatric Section.



Dylan Thompson

Dylan Thompson, BHS, is a first year SLP graduate student at the University of Missouri and will graduate with his master’s degree in May of 2022. Dylan also attended the University of Missouri for his undergraduate degree. His clinical experiences includes working with adult clients to address voice and aphasia. He has participated in programs such as the R.G. Combs Language Preschool, MU Accent Modification and Pronunciation Program, and LEAP. He also has research experience in the neurogenic communication disorders lab. Dylan looks forward to starting his first outplacement in the coming fall semester.

Lauren Laur

Lauren Laur, M.A., CCC-SLP, is a 2008 graduate with a Master of Arts from Truman State University. She currently works for the University of Missouri as an assistant clinical professor. Lauren co-teaches a graduate level course on acquired cognitive-communication disorders as well as supervises adult clients in the MU Speech and Hearing Clinic. Lauren’s clinical interests include working with patients who have aphasia, acquired apraxia, and cognitive impairments. Lauren has previous work experience in a variety of practice settings with both pediatric and adult clients including outpatient rehabilitation, inpatient rehabilitation, and the public schools. Lauren is certified in VitalStim for treating dysphagia and has completed level 1 PROMPT training for treating apraxia.

Taylor Wiseman

Taylor Wiseman

Taylor Wiseman, BHS, is a second year SLP graduate student at the University of Missouri and will graduate with her Master’s degree in May of 2021. For her undergraduate degree, she attended the University of Missouri. Taylor has worked with multiple adult clients with neurological disorders such as TBIs and CVAs individually and in groups at the MU Speech and Hearing Clinic. She also has clinical experience working with adults with neurological disorders through her outplacement at Ellis Fischel Cancer Rehab. In March of 2021, Taylor will be completing an outplacement at University Hospital.


Dialogic Reading & Telepractice

Tanya Myrick

Tanya Myrick, MS, CCC-SLP is an assistant clinical professor of Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences at University of Missouri-Columbia. She supervises graduate student clinicians full time in the clinic during the provision of treatment and evaluation services to children. Prior to joining the University of Missouri-Columbia, Mrs. Myrick served as the Lead Speech Language Pathologist at Kansas Public Schools in Kansas City, Missouri where she provided support and mentorship to the district speech pathology staff. Mrs. Myrick’s experience includes several years of experience in the public school setting as a speech language pathologist and speech language diagnostician serving students in preschool through high school. Mrs. Myrick holds a Master of Science and Bachelor of Science degree from University of Central Missouri.

Riley Cranford

Riley Cranford, BHS, was born and raised in Columbia, Missouri, and is a product of Columbia Public Schools from kindergarten through graduation. She is currently in her first year of graduate school in the Speech-Language Pathology Program at the University of Missouri. Riley received her BHS in Speech Language and Hearing Sciences from the University of Missouri in May 2020. During her time at Mizzou she has worked in the Robert G. Combs Language Preschool as a student clinician, as well as with clients in the MU Speech and Hearing Clinic, where Professor Myrick was her supervisor.


  • Financial – E. Kelley, T. Myrick, L. Laur, and S. Wagovich receive salaries as faculty of the University of Missouri.  In addition, B. Rennard, R. Cranford, T. Wiseman, and D. Thompson receive or have previously received graduate assistantships within the department. D. Thompson was also the recipient of the Dr. Shirley Patterson Scholarship in Speech-Language Pathology for 2020.

  • describe how the article relates to the existing literature and practice in this area;
  • explain how information from the article and the journal club discussion can be applied to clinical work.
