Social Work faculty member receives Tribute to Women Award

March 29, 2022

Kathleen Preble, School of Social Work assistant professor, received the Jordan Hoyt Memorial Tribute to Women Award at the MU Tribute to Women banquet March 15.

Her nominators cited many ways that Dr. Preble, an expert in human trafficking, has worked to promote and elevate the status of women on campus and across Missouri.

“Dr. Preble has shown visionary leadership at the University of Missouri … with the development of CIVIC, the Center for Interpersonal Violence Research In Context, an emerging intercampus research group,” wrote J. Kale Monk, assistant professor in the Department of Human Development and Family Science.

“Through this group, Dr. Preble’s students have been able to learn from the researchers and practitioners involved about best practices in relationship violence intervention and prevention as well as how researchers and providers collaborate and support each other,” wrote Sarah Myers Tlapek, adjunct instructor in the School of Social Work.

“In community-level work, Dr. Preble demonstrates initiative and leadership to combat gender-based violence at the intersections of public health and social justice endeavors with a service orientation,” wrote Andrea Nichols, a research collaborator at Washington University in St. Louis. “Dr. Preble very clearly engages in applied research scholarship, putting research into action, with the ultimate aim of benefitting the community, women, and girls.”
