Applicants are considered on a competitive basis each admission period. Students who wish to apply to the program must have completed both the general education requirements and program math and science prerequisites before entering the professional phase of the program. They must also be at least a college sophomore in good standing. Certain requirements may be waived for those applicants with a previous bachelor or associate of arts degrees. Consideration is given for such items as admission to the University of Missouri School of Health Professions, completed application packet, overall GPA, science GPA, rigor of academic work, confidential evaluations, radiography observations, student essay, and interview.
Minimum criteria for admission to the Radiography program are:
- Acceptance by the University (transfer/returning students). View campus admission and transfer of credit policies.
- Earning C range or better grades in all remaining program prerequisite courses during initial enrollment in those courses.
- Maintaining a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5.
- Successful completion of health, background and drug screenings.
- Validation of previous coursework through inspection of Official Transcripts (non-MU students).
- Determination of English language proficiency by the Program.
- Initial eligibility for ARRT Certification.
Test of English As a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is required of every applicant whose native language is not English. A TOEFL score cannot be more than two years old. Our minimum TOEFL score requirement is 600 (paper-based test) or 100 (internet-based test); however, many other departments may have higher requirements.
High school seniors and first-semester MU freshmen may be eligible to apply for early admission to the Radiography program.
How to apply
Applicants must complete Department of Clinical & Diagnostic Sciences (CDS) forms and Radiography program application materials. Submit as attachments in an email to firstname.lastname@example.org. All materials must be received by the Radiography Admissions Committee on or before Dec. 1.
Required application materials
It is highly recommended to meet with the program director prior to submitting an application to the program.
Download all application documents to your local drive. Complete the forms, save the forms to your local drive and submit as instructed. Keep a copy of all submitted forms!
- CDS Undergraduate Application. Complete the application form using your computer. Do not send a scanned copy. Digital & electronic signatures are accepted.
- CDS Clinical Immunizations Authorization Form. Compile your health history data to help you fill out the Clinical Immunizations Authorization Form. This is not a list of things for you to complete before the application due date. We only need to know your current status.
- Clinical Immunizations Authorization Form Supporting Materials. Submit a copy, screenshot or scan of your health record used to complete the Clinical Immunizations Authorization form. We do not need original forms.
- Use the Radiography Applicant Check Off Sheet for tracking (this does not need to be turned in with the rest of your materials).
- Radiography Applicant Information includes instructions and information important to any applicant.
- Letter to the Admissions Committee. Create a letter to support your application materials following the information listed in the Letter of Admissions Committee Instructions. This should be submitted in a Word, text or PDF file. We are unable to view Mac .pages files.
- Observation Form. Each applicant must complete 8 hours of observation in a radiology department. Document those hours on the Observation Form and have the tech sign the form to verify.
- Recommendation Form
- Complete the top portion of the Recommendation Form to include your contact information. Save the form to your drive (make sure the top information has been saved before sending to the people who have agreed to complete the form for you).
- Send this form as an attachment to two people who are capable of assessing your work and potential to pursue an academic degree. References should include people from at least 2 different categories.
- Supervisor / employer
- College professor / TA
- High School Teacher
- Organizational Leader or Advisor (e.g. Scout Leader, FBLA advisor, etc.)
- Athletic Coach
- Other who has supervised you in a work or academic setting
References should not include relatives, family friends or neighbors
- Recommendation forms can be delivered to your preferred contacts via email or on paper
- If you send a request to complete via email, include instructions that this recommendation form is to be returned directly to the Admissions Committee at email@example.com by Dec. 1. This should not come from the applicant.
- If you send a request with a printed copy, it is advisable to also give them a pre-filled envelope with a stamp addressed to Radiography Admissions Committee, 605 Lewis Hall, Columbia, MO 65211 to help expedite the process.
- Complete the Academic Course List
- Application Fee. Submit the $40.00 Radiography Program application fee by cash, check or money order.
- Check or money order should be made out to University of Missouri.
- Cash must be exact change. Do not send cash via mail; make an appointment to drop off.
- Credit or debit card payments may be made via Touchnet
All application materials are due to the Radiography office no later than Dec. 1. Applicants may contact the Radiography Admissions Committee to verify receipt of any materials at any time by emailing RadSci@missouri.edu.
Full disclosure of any ticket, citation, summons, arrest, charges or convictions for a misdemeanor or felony is required on the application to the professional phase of the program. Individuals who have been charged or convicted of a misdemeanor or felony must pre-apply to the ARRT. Written preapproval to take the examination must be attached to the program application by the application deadline. Contact the Program Director for preapproval information well in advance of the program application deadline. Written preapproval may take up to 12 weeks to complete.
Applicant evaluation and communication
Achievement of minimum requirements does not guarantee admission. Seats are limited, and we seek to admit the best qualified. The Admissions Committee employs a holistic review process, considering the “whole” applicant. It takes into consideration the applicants’ experiences, attributes and academic metrics as well as the value the applicant would contribute to the learning, clinical and professional environments. In selecting candidates for the MU Radiography program, we consider:
- Overall/Cumulative GPA
- Cumulative GPA in program prerequisite math and science courses
- Number of prerequisite courses completed at time of application
- Written communication skills as demonstrated in an essay or letter to the admissions committee
- Motivation for the profession as demonstrated in the essay or letter to the admission committee as well as the interview
- Realistic expectations of the program and profession as demonstrated in the essay or letter to the admission committee as well as the interview
- Application Quality
- Oral communication skills as demonstrated in the interview
- Overall candidate impression
The information considered in the selection process is directly related to the program’s Mission, Vision and Goals (see above). The information listed above is the only information that is considered during the selection process. Every effort is made to ensure that the selection process is fair and equitable to all applicants. Multiple interview ratings and essay ratings are averaged in determining the final score. The selection process strives to achieve a well-rounded assessment of the student as a whole. The number of classes completed is just as important as the grades in those classes. Motivation for the profession is just as important as GPA. While the interview and essay are important, they are somewhat less important than grades in the prerequisite classes and the proportion of prerequisite classes completed.
- If your letters of recommendation and transcripts have not been received by Dec.. 1, you will be notified by email.
- The Admissions Committee will review and evaluate each applicant’s packet when it is complete. The applicant’s official ACT score, pattern of academic accomplishment, exposure to the profession, work experience, verbal expression, written expression and recommendations are all important in the selection process.
- Applicants will be ranked and selected for interview. All who wish to be considered for admission must be available for an interview on the MU campus in mid-February. You will be contacted regarding a date and time. If you are not selected for an interview, you will be notified by U.S. mail and/or email.
- You may contact the Admissions Committee by email (firstname.lastname@example.org) if you have not received a response to your application by March 1.
- Following the interviews, a class of students will be identified. The accepted applicants, those on a temporary waiting list and those not accepted will be notified by email within one month of the interviews.
