The SHP Excellence in Clinical Service Award honors a faculty member who has demonstrated sustained excellence in school and university clinical service activities, including clinical teaching and direct patient care. These activities reflect the faculty member’s academic and professional expertise and support SHP’s mission; they are outstanding contributions that serve as a model of excellence in clinical service.
Dr. Carmen Abbott not only sees a high volume of patients in the Mizzou Therapy Services faculty clinic, but also works tirelessly in the community providing fall risk screenings with several organizations, co-directs Mizzou Steps at Tiger Place, and serves on the coordinating board for the annual Mizzou Wheelchair Relay. Through all of these activities, she is engaging, teaching and mentoring physical therapy students. She has a boundless energy for working formally and informally with students to support their knowledge and comfort level treating a wide variety of clients. Her nominator also noted that her clinical excellence supports scholarship that Dr. Abbott has presented at the state and national levels.
Congratulations, Dr. Abbott!
