SHP OT Student and Mentor Receive Grant for Innovative Teaching Approaches

Posted in Occupational Therapy

This week Lyndi Plattner, a second-year occupational therapy student, and her mentor Whitney Henderson, Assistant Clinical Professor, were awarded a grant for the Student Teaching as Research (STAR) Project. The $1,500 award is given to ten projects that focus on teaching and learning methods and the impact of those methods. During the 2018 spring semester, Plattner and Henderson will conduct their study, which explores the effectiveness of occupational therapy students’ involvement in course design. The team aims to determine the impact of a “flipped” classroom on occupational therapy students’ knowledge and attitudes toward learning. Plattner and Henderson will be assisted in their efforts by Bailey Baucum, Tymeshia Casey, Alli Grant, and Paige Headlee.
