Admission criteria

• Admission to MU. For information on how to apply to the University of Missouri, visit the Admissions website.
• Completion of general course prerequisites
• Completion of program prerequisites
• Completed application packet submitted to admissions committee
• Minimum of 2.5 cumulative GPA
• Evidence of interest and knowledge of the field
• Volunteer or observation experiences
• Two letters of recommendation
• Personal interview

How to apply

Applicants must complete Department of Clinical & Diagnostic Sciences (CDS) forms and the Nuclear Medicine program application materials. Submit as attachments in an email to nucmed@health.missouri.edu. All materials must be received by the Nuclear Medicine Admissions Committee on or before Dec. 1.

Download all application documents to your local drive. Complete the forms, save the forms to your local drive and submit as instructed. Keep a copy of all submitted forms!

Department forms

1. CDS Undergraduate Application. Complete the application form using your computer. Do not send a scanned copy. Digital & electronic signatures are accepted.
2. CDS Clinical Immunizations Authorization Form. Compile your health history data to help you fill out the Clinical Immunizations Authorization Form. This is not a list of things for you to complete before the application due date. We only need to know your current status.
   • Clinical Immunizations Authorization Form Supporting Materials. Submit a copy, screenshot or scan of your health record used to complete the Clinical Immunizations Authorization form. We do not need original forms

Program application materials

1. Nuclear Medicine Application Information. Read and follow the instructions carefully.
2. Nuclear Medicine Application Checklist. This checklist may be used as a convenient way to track your packet materials.
3. Letter to the Admissions Committee. Create a letter to support your application materials following the information listed in the Letter of Admissions Committee Instructions. This should be submitted in a Word, text or PDF file. We are unable to view Mac “.pages” files.
4. Eligibility for ARRT Certification. Certification through ARRT may only be taken by those who are eligible. It is important for all applicants to understand the eligibility criteria.
5. Essential Requirements (Technical Standards) Form. Applicants should use this to determine if accommodations or modifications are necessary to meet performance levels.
6. Observation Form. Complete 8 hours of observation. Take the Nuclear Medicine Observation Form with you and make sure the supervising technologist(s) signs the form upon completion. Scan or take a good quality photo of this document to add to your application packet. If you completed NucMed 1000, attach a scanned copy of your completed observations through this course to fulfill the requirement.

8. Recommendation Form
   • Complete the top portion of the form to include your contact information.
   • Send this form as an attachment to two people who are capable of assessing your work and potential to pursue an academic degree. References should include people from at least 2 different categories:
     • Supervisor / employer
     • College professor / TA
     • High School Teacher
     • Organizational Leader or Advisor (e.g. Scout Leader, FBLA advisor, etc.)
     • Athletic Coach
     • Other who has supervised you in a work or academic setting
       References should not include relatives, family friends or neighbors
   • Recommendation forms can be delivered to your preferred contacts via email or on paper
     • If you send a request to complete via email, include instructions that this recommendation form is to be returned directly to the Admissions Committee at nucmed@health.missouri.edu by Dec. 1. This should not come from the applicant.
     • If you send a request with a printed copy, it is advisable to also give them a pre-filled envelope with a stamp addressed to Radiography Admissions Committee, 605 Lewis Hall, Columbia, MO 65211 to help expedite the process.
9. Application Fee. Submit the $40.00 Nuclear Medicine Program application fee.
   • Check or Money Order should be made out to University of Missouri. Include applicant name and degree program in notes.
   • Cash must be exact change. Do not send cash via mail; make an appointment to drop off cash payment.
   • Credit/debit card payments may be made via Touchnet.
10. Email all application materials as attachments in an email to nucmed@health.missouri.edu.

All application materials are due no later than Dec. 1.

It is highly advisable to schedule an appointment with an advisor in SHP Student Services to check your acceptance eligibility prior to submitting an application. The program director is also available to answer any questions you may have, and appointments can be scheduled as needed.

Accepted student requirements

All accepted students must:

• Provide a current immunization record and update as required;
• Complete a nationwide criminal background check as well as a caregiver screening through Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services using their social security number;
  • Students should be prepared to show their government issued social security card for clinical vetting, if requested to do so.
    • Students who have a valid social security number but do not have their government issued social security card will need to get a replacement through the Social Security Administration.
    • International students who need to obtain a social security number should visit International Student and Scholar Services for information about identification documents.
• Submit to a 14 Panel Drug Test;
• Have current certification in BLS (Basic Life Support) for Healthcare Providers through any AHA (American Heart Association) certified course, this certification must be maintained throughout the entire professional phase of the program;
  • The Nuclear Medicine program will certify accepted students during the student’s professional phase.
• Purchase lab coats, scrubs and other materials for their classroom and clinical training;
• Have reliable transportation;
• Maintain the required minimum 2.5 GPA per semester as well as cumulative;
• Successfully completely all pre-requisite courses; and
• Follow all rules and regulations in the Nuclear Medicine Policy Manual.
