The Mizzou School of Health Professions seeks an editor and storyteller to join its Office of Strategic Communication and Marketing. If you are passionate about finding and telling stories, and you know how to prepare content for multiple channels to maximize reach, this job is for you!

You’ll join an experienced marketing and communication team in the fastest growing school at Mizzou. We’re helping our faculty and administrators break records for research, enrollment and fundraising. We’re also about to embark on a brand identity project that includes changing our name to better reflect the scope and breadth of our school, and you’ll be a key player in this process.

A little about us: We are a collaborative team that values efficiency and quality. On a typical day, we’re bouncing ideas off of each other, responding to requests, and knocking out projects. We divvy up our workload based on individual strengths, interests and business needs, and we re-evaluate this regularly. If there’s a way to work better, we want to try it – we’ll expect you to bring your ideas to help us be more effective in every way.

  • Content planning: Manage annual content calendar, find story ideas, plan multimedia stories that can be repackaged for multiple channels and audiences.
  • Editorial management: Review and clarify story pitches, manage workflow, assign tasks to staff and student employees, ensure timely completion and communicate proactively with sources and stakeholders.
  • Writing and editing: Interview sources and create content for a variety of communication channels, including newsletters, websites, social media and print publications. Edit content written by other team members.
  • Social media management: Manage content, schedule posts and monitor school and department social media accounts.
  • Analytics and reporting: Analyze data and report on the impact and effectiveness of communication and marketing efforts.
  • Leadership: Provide input and recommendations to director. Act as a resource for colleagues. May supervise student employees.
  • Other related duties and job development


  • Salary Range: $48,900–$88,730
  • Grade: GGS 010

40 hours per week – start/end time are negotiable


Minimum: A Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred: Experience in communication, marketing or related field required. Journalism, content management or content marketing experience preferred.

The MU School of Health Professions is the University of Missouri system’s only school of health professions and the state’s only public health program located on a health sciences campus. Its mission is to improve the health and well-being of others. Vaccination statement

After careful consideration of COVID-19 virus trends and the overwhelming evidence of COVID-19 vaccine safety and effectiveness, the School of Medicine, along with MU Health Care, the Sinclair School of Nursing and the School of Health Professions, recently announced the decision to require COVID-19 vaccinations by Oct. 1, 2021, for all employees, unless granted a medical or religious exemption.

All new hires will be required to submit proof of vaccination prior to your start date. If you would like to request a medical or religious exemption, you must do so upon acceptance of employment, so our team has time to review prior to your scheduled start date.
