Melinda Cartwright, wife of MU Chancellor, Alexander Cartwright, visited and read to 3-5-year-old students at the Robert G. Combs Language Preschool. The preschool serves children ages 2 to 5 years old, both with and without speech and language difficulties. Cartwright read Sleep, Black Bear, Sleep, a 2007 children’s book by Jane Yolen, Heidi E. Y. Stemple, and Brooke Dyer. The event was organized by Carol Oliver, wife of Dean Emeritus Richard Oliver, who coordinates a guest reader program for the school.

Volunteers are always welcome to read to the preschoolers. Hearing a variety of readers helps them develop early literacy skills and gives them many experiences to associate with reading. Contact umhsshpcomm@health.missouri.edu for more information.
