The MU School of Health Professions is pleased to announce that Idethia Shevon Harvey, DrPH, FGSA, has been named Faculty Fellow for Inclusive Excellence. In this role, she will work with Stephanie Reid-Arndt, senior associate dean, and Tommy Thomas III, diversity initiatives coordinator, to create programs and activities that help to increase diversity, equity, and inclusion in the school.
Dr. Harvey joined the School of Health Professions in July, and is an associate professor in the Department of Health Sciences. Her research focuses on ethnic minority populations and uses community-engaged models of qualitative research to learn more about chronic disease management and health disparities among rural and aging African Americans. She has served as a principal investigator, co-principal investigator, and co-investigator on federal and state grant research exceeding $2 million and is the author of more than 48 peer-reviewed research articles.
Prior to coming to MU, Dr. Harvey was an associate professor in the Department of Health and Kinesiology and director of the Transdisciplinary Center of Health Equity Research and the Chronic Conditions Among Community of Color Research Lab at Texas A&M University.
Dr. Harvey received her Bachelor of Engineering from Clemson University, Master of Public Health from Morehouse School of Medicine, and Doctor of Public Health in Behavioral and Community Health Sciences from the University of Pittsburgh.
