Last week, a group of SHP Clinical and Diagnostic Science students visited the National Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography convention in Dallas, TX, nine of which won prestigious awards from the association during their time there. The convention was held October 12-15 and is designed for students and sonographers alike to share knowledge and skills for diagnostic accuracy.
The W. Frederick Sample Student Excellence Award recognizes outstanding writing by students in diagnostic medical sonography. First Place was awarded to Joe Ryan Anderson, for The Ultrasound Differentiation of Pleural Lining Thickening in Smokers vs. Nonsmokers. Second Place was awarded to Courtney Chandler, for The Gold Standard of Rotator Cuff Imaging: An Investigation into Why Magnetic Resonance Imaging is Preferred over Ultrasound.
The Student Poster Competition acknowledges an exceptional research study poster created by students and judged on appearance, content, and originality. First Place was awarded to Kaitlyn Marsh and Mariah Isom, for Effect of Visual Distance on Ophthalmic Artery Flow and Ocular Discomfort. Margaret Perkins, Annuja Mathivanan and Rachel Steinbeck won Second Place for The Effects of Vegetarian vs. Omnivore Diets on Gallbladder Ejection Fraction.
The Scientific Presentation Competition rewards sonographers that have written original presentation summary papers. First Place was awarded to Kelsy Fisher and Courtney Sorensen for Sonographic Detection and Serial Assessment of Abernethy Malformation in a Male Patient with Rare Symptomology: A Case Study.
