On July 8, 2017, Lewis Hall experienced a major flooding event. More than 50,000 gallons of water poured from the top of the building to the bottom, soaking offices, clinics, classrooms and labs on every floor.
One of the Communication Science and Disorders’ Summer Week-long Intensive programs was set to begin on July 10. Thanks to the quick work of department faculty, and the generosity of other departments in SHP and across the campus, the program was able to start July 11. Only one missed day.
The department is now back on the 3rd floor of Lewis Hall, and has resumed mostly normal operations. Replacing materials and equipment will take time, but we’re thankful for the patience of the families we serve, and the absolutely indomitable spirit of our faculty, staff and students.
The department has launched several new programs, despite the summer’s challenges, and we look forward to announcing those soon.
