Last week, SHP Freshman and Student Ambassador Raven Smith was awarded the 2017 PrivateBank Norman Bobins Leadership Award for her work to celebrate and promote Chicago neighborhoods through Straight from the ‘Go, an organization Raven founded when she was in high school. The organization’s aim is to “dispel the belief that Chicago is by nature a violent city that has no interest in creating a safe community where citizens can live in peace and harmony.”
The award and a $5,000 cash prize, was presented to Raven at the Chicago Neighborhood Development Awards on Tuesday, Feb. 28, at McCormick Place in Chicago. The Chicago Neighborhood Development Awards includes the presentation of a number of awards to projects, programs and people making a difference in Chicago communities. It is attended by over 1,500 leaders from Chicago’s neighborhoods, government, and corporate, philanthropic and civic community.
This month, Raven is the subject of a MizzouNews feature on missouri.edu.
