2017 SHP Award Categories

To nominate a member of SHP for an award:

  1. Write a single letter of nomination. Nomination letters should be no more

than two pages and clearly state the name of the award for which the individual

is being nominated.

     2. Submit nominations to Rose Hayden in the Dean’s Office in

510 Lewis Hall no later than 5:00 pm on March 2, 2017.

 

      SHP Awards  Category                                              Description and Criteria

 

 

Alumni, Excellence in Mentoring Alumni This award honors an exceptional professional role model and mentor who has demonstrated a genuine commitment to the advancement of SHP and its students.

 

 

Alumni Citation of Merit Award Alumni This award is given to a member of the SHP alumni in recognition of exemplary contributions made, whether they be humanitarian, professional, civic, or philanthropic. 

 

 

 

Lewis & Clark Discovery:  Excellence Faculty This award is given to a faculty member who has made outstanding contributions to the health and wellbeing of individuals, families and/or communities through research and scholarly activities. Such contributions may include (but are not limited to) high impact discoveries, sustained achievement and/or mentorship activities. 

 

 

 

Lewis & Clark Discovery:  Early Career Faculty This award is conferred upon a faculty member who, while still in the first 10 years since degree completion, has made significant contributions to the health and wellbeing of individuals, families and/or communities through research and scholarly activities.

 

 

 

 

 

Kristofer and Lori Hagglund Early Career Award Faculty This award was established to help support faculty who are balancing the demands of teaching, research and service, which, as we both know well, is a challenge both for the faculty member and his or her family. The award is selected each year by a special faculty committee, and includes a $2500 stipend for a faculty member who has not yet attained the rank of full professor and whose successes in scholarship, teaching or service have significantly advanced the mission of SHP.  

 

 

 

 

 

SHP Faculty Engagement Award Faculty The SHP Faculty Engagement Award will honor a faculty member who has demonstrated exceptional engagement and service to the community, broadly defined as including the School/University, their profession and/or the local/national/international community. These activities reflect the faculty member’s academic/professional expertise and support SHP’s mission; they are outstanding contributions that exceed typical expectations for faculty engagement.

 

 

 

 

Exellence in Clinical Service Faculty The SHP Excellence in Clinical Service Award will honor a faculty member who has demonstrated sustained excellence in School/University clinical service activities, including clinical teaching and/or direct patient care. These activities reflect the faculty member’s academic/professional expertise and support SHP’s mission; they are outstanding contributions that serve as a model of excellence for all.

 

 

 

 

 

Excellence in Education Faculty The School of Health Professions recognizes that excellence in teaching not only benefits the learners but also serves as a foundation of a critical SHP mission – to prepare graduates for high impact careers. This award honors a faculty member at the level of mid-career or beyond who has demonstrated superlative commitment to the teaching mission, and may recognize efforts spanning a broad range of activities, including traditional instruction, advising, mentoring, training, and outreach activities.

 

 

 

 

 

Excellence in Education – Early Career                      (< 7 yrs. of teaching experience) Faculty The School of Health Professions recognizes that excellence in teaching not only benefits the learners but also serves as a foundation of a critical SHP mission – to prepare graduates for high impact careers. This award honors a faculty member at the early career level (less than 7 years of teaching experience) who has demonstrated superlative commitment to the teaching mission, and may recognize efforts spanning a broad range of activities, including traditional instruction, advising, mentoring, training, and outreach activities.

 

 

 

 

 

Inclusive Excellence Award                  (faculty or staff) Faculty or Staff This award recognizes outstanding efforts by faculty and/or staff to enhance an environment of inclusion within the School of Health Professions and/or campus-wide. This can include, but is not limited to, efforts to promote recognition and support of the value of diverse perspectives/experiences, efforts to enhance inclusivity (e.g., via projects, classroom instruction, etc.), and contributions to the celebration of diversity at the school and/or community level.

 

 

 

Dean’s Service Award Staff Recognizes a member of the SHP staff who has demonstrated exemplary service to the school and has gone out of his or her way to help others achieve the highest levels of success. 

 

 

 

Bridge Builder Award  Staff This award recognizes the outstanding efforts of a member of the SHP Staff to reach out and collaborate across departments, the campus, and/or the community.

 

 

 

Undergraduate Student Engagement Award Student Recognizes an SHP undergraduate for exemplary community, educational or pre-professional engagement and/or service.

 

 

 

Graduate Student Engagement Award Student Recognizes an SHP graduate student for exemplary community, educational or pre-professional engagement and/or service.

 

 

 

SHP Undergraduate Research Award Student This award is given to an undergraduate student in the School of Health Professions who has conducted original research under the guidance of a faculty mentor.  Through the research experience, the student has demonstrated outstanding potential to continue research training in graduate school and beyond.
