OT Alumnus Recognized by Victims Services Academy

SHP Occupational Therapy alum Mark Koch received the 2016 Outstanding Service to Victims Award from the Missouri Victims Services Academy (MVSA). Koch, a Victim Advocate with the Boone County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, has worked in victim services since 1997 and is the former Executive Director of the Coalition Against Rape and Domestic Violence (CARDV) of Callaway County.

The award was presented at the close of the MVSA’s August 31 – September 2 conference in Osage Beach, Missouri. The MVSA presents two Outstanding Service to Victims awards annually, but only one of which goes to someone within the field of victim assistance. Koch was nominated by several colleagues and then selected by the MVSA Committee.

“This award is a well-deserved recognition of Mark’s dedication to improving quality of life,” said Whitney Henderson, assistant clinical professor in the Department of Occupational Therapy. “Mark has been a strong advocate for the role of occupational therapy in victim advocacy services.”

Koch says he utilizes his OT skills, just in a different setting.

“We’re all people who participate in activities that reinforce a sense of meaning and purpose,” said Koch. “My job is to try to figure out how to get a person back on track.”
