Kahng Named Chair for Department of Health Psychology

SungWoo Kahng, PhD, BCBA-D, currently Associate Professor in the Department of Health Psychology, has accepted the offer to serve as Department Chair, effective immediately.

Dr. Kahng has been a member of the SHP faculty for nearly two years, during which time he has maintained an active program of research and clinical responsibilities at the MU Thompson Center for Autism and Neurodevelopmental Disorders. In addition he was the principal author of the Master of Science in Applied Behavior Analysis proposal, which was recently approved by the university.

Dean Kristofer Hagglund said, “Dr. Kahng possesses a wealth of experience in all three critical areas of the mission of the Department of Health Psychology: teaching, research and clinical service. As Chair, he will be working with the faculty and staff of the department to further integrate their work toward these missions and accelerate the growth and success of the department.”

Prior to coming to Mizzou, Dr. Kahng was at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and the Kennedy Krieger Institute. His research focuses on behavioral assessment and treatment of severe problem behaviors, such as self-injury and aggression, exhibited by individuals with developmental disabilities. Kahng has authored or co-authored more than 60 peer-reviewed journals articles and 10 book chapters. He is an associate editor for Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis and on the board of editors of Behavioral Intervention. Additionally, he has given nearly 50 lectures, workshops and invited presentations.
