Dr. Judith Goodman, PhD, has been named Interim Associate Dean for Research in the School of Health Professions. Dr. Goodman is Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Communication Science and Disorders and she will retain those roles during her service as Interim Associate Dean.
As Associate Dean for Research, Dr. Goodman will be responsible for managing the office of research team, providing mentoring for research faculty, ensuring regular and effective communication and promotion of SHP research, and providing oversight for SHP internal funding initiatives.
“Dr. Goodman understands the resources and support faculty need to be successful with their research projects and agendas,” Dean Kristofer Hagglund said. “She will be a tremendous advocate for the SHP research faculty, and has the leadership we need to keep the positive momentum of our scholarship trajectory.”
Dr. Goodman’s department is home to seven faculty-run research labs, including her own. “Being a part of the career development of outstanding scholars has been a privilege,” Goodman said. “I look forward to the opportunity to partner with faculty throughout the school and across campus to SHP’s tremendous growth in research and scholarship.”
Dr. Goodman has been a member of the SHP faculty since 1995. Her current research projects are concerned with the cognitive mechanisms that underlie vocabulary and grammar acquisition, the role of parental input in vocabulary acquisition, the relationship between learning in different language domains, and the development of conversation. She also continues to teach both undergraduate and graduate courses and was recently recognized with MU’s Writing Intensive Teaching Excellence Award. In previous years she was awarded the Outstanding Undergraduate Research Mentor award and the Gold Chalk Award for Excellence in Teaching. Dr. Goodman is also a former winner of SHP’s Outstanding Faculty Award.
