Bill Dierks, a 1976 SHP graduate of the Physical Therapy program, has donated to the Judy Kleiboecker Frieders scholarship. When Dierks was a student in PT, he was a recipient of the very same scholarship.
Judy Kleiboecker Frieders graduated from MU’s physical therapy program in June 1968 and passed away the following September. Her family established the scholarship in her honor, and each year physical therapy students are chosen by their classmates to receive this monetary award.
Dierks said he contributed to the Frieders scholarship to give back to the program and give another student the same opportunity he had.
“I received a good education,” Dierks said. “And I’m just proud of the institution.”
Dierks’ interest in becoming a physical therapist stemmed from receiving physical therapy himself after an accident damaged his right arm. After graduation, Dierks began working at Barnes Jewish Hospital and then opened a private practice in Joplin, where he worked for 20 years.
